Learning Organization Scores Summary
It is found that as a learning organization,
my organization is weak in nurturing the learning environment and process. As I
mentioned over the past few weeks, my organization is at the beginning stage of
developing as a learning organization and actually going through quite a tough
time – it tries to make a significant change from a traditional education
organization that lets students learn to a recognized educational institution
that learns from others. It is no wonder why the learning environment is not
strong. Environment is hard to change as it is a cultural matter.
Concrete Learning Processes and Practices
Compared to other teammates’ scores in this part, my organization is in
lower quartile. However, looking at the background of my organization, I think
the scores are acceptable in this part. Particularly, the information
collection and transfer have been improved through better information
management (such as the works done for the department by me!). However, experimentation,
and education and training that require lots of efforts and resources are
something that cannot be improved shortly. With more teaching and learning
activities and implementation of outcome-based teaching and learning in the
organization, it is expected that both areas would soon be achieved successfully.
Supportive Learning Environment
The scores in this part are very low as expected because the scores
reflect the actual situations facing the organization and the environment where
the organization is at. Whenever an order is made by the management, it has to
be supported by the people. Unfortunately, the long established traditional value
rooted in my organization creates resistant forces for openness to new ideas and
reluctance to appreciation of differences. As my organization has just begun
providing learning opportunities to staff, this new concept will take a long
time to digest by everyone until everyone gets used to it.
Hi Jeff,
ReplyDeleteNoticed that you gave particularly low scores to the categories under supportive learning environment - For "Openness to new ideas" your score even falls below the minimum recorded by the survey's authors!
Is there any particular behaviour on the part of your managers that resulted in this score? Do they automatically and forcefully reject suggestions that conflict with established practice?
Hi Jeff,
ReplyDeleteI am very interesting in the openness of new idea aspect. Does it means your organization does not like to change? or your leader is a laggard?
